The Story of Muzeon

About Us

Muzeon is an innovative Jewish history exhibition, founded in 2020, as a private initiative. Based on a family history, Muzeon tells stories of the Jewish community in Cluj, Romania, via three different audio guides: Julia, Paul, and David. All the information in the exhibition, including the audio guide, is available in English, Romanian, Hungarian, Hebrew, German, French, and Spanish.

The Muzeon mission is to offer visitors a meaningful learning experience, without the effort of learning. That is why there are three different audio guides, which tell real stories in first person, combined with interactive exhibits, artifacts, artistic installations, and Virtual Reality.

  • Good interactive museum. Very informative and brought 1940s Jewish people to life.

  • After driving an hour and a half on the highway to Cluj to visit this museum, I found it absolutely impossible to find parking. The city of clues completely ignored the needs of disabled drivers or passengers and did not install enough disabled parking spaces anywhere in the historic district. After going around the streets several times, I found only one disabled parking space, which was occupied. The museum itself is on a very small, one-way street in an almost pedestrian area. It was crowded with vehicles, both legally and illegally, parked all along the street and on the sidewalks. So much so that as I passed the museum and turned, I was confronted with a small alleyway, blocked by illegally parked vehicles. It was so bad that I had to drive on the very narrow sidewalk after jumping the curb to be able to clear the way and leave the street in question. This was happening on Paul Chinezu Street. It was a riot. So, while I'm sure the museum is a great resource and source of information about local Judaica, I couldn't attend any of it because I couldn't physically get to the museum. After driving an hour and a half into town, I would have had to park my car far away and then hail a rideshare to actually get to the museum, which would have been awful and a complete insult. At this point, I don't know if I'll ever be able to visit the museum, because I can't imagine parking being any better on a weekend than on a weekday. The city should know that the vast majority of its tourist visitors come in private vehicles. They don't fly into the city in significant numbers compared to the number of people who drive into the city. And of the four public parking lots that exist anywhere near the historic district, three out of four were full. I even have a photo of the sign showing them all full. It was ridiculous. Historical sites and museums cannot be visited if there is no way to get to them! Shame on Cluj!

  • Polecam. Niewielkie, ale bardzo dobrze zorganizowane muzeum. Dzieje Żydów siedmiogrodzkich opowiadane przez trzy oddzielne biografie. Poprzez losy pojedynczych osób opowiedziane życie codzienne i świąteczne, różne eksponaty.

  • I recommend it. A small but very well-organized museum. The history of Transylvanian Jews is told through three separate biographies. Through the stories of individual individuals, everyday life and festive occasions are recounted, along with various exhibits. Understandably, a significant portion of the museum is devoted to the extermination of the Jews of Cluj, perpetrated, of course, by the Germans, at the hands of the Hungarian administration. Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna, a wartime resident of Cluj, witnessed these tragic days and dedicated a poem to this tragedy, "Pogrom w Kolozsvar" (The Kolozsvar Pogrom). The kind farmers were unaware of this event. I will help them remove this blank spot.
