The main subject of the exhibition is the field recordings of Max Eisikovits, composer, musicologist, teacher, collector and exegete of Yiddish folklore in Romania, a key figure in the revival and preservation of the klezmer musical genre in Transylvania.

In the exhibition you can discover:

Eisikovits travelled to Jewish settlements in the Maramureș region of Transylvania to collect songs from the Hasidic population (Hasidism is a religious movement in Judaism that was founded in Poland in 1736 by Israel ben Eliezer) in the area. Today, his field notes are a unique documentation of the musical traditions of this culture.

The exhibition can be visited free of charge from December the 10th 2023 to February the 29th 2024, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 18:00 (last entrance at 17:30), at Muzeon, 3 Virgil Fulicea Street, Cluj-Napoca.
